Kolkata, 14 May (H.S.): The office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal, has directed district election authorities across the state to undertake a comprehensive verification of electoral rolls to identify voters who have shifted residence, are no longer living at the registered address, or are deceased.
According to an official memorandum issued on Wednesday night, all District Election Officers and Electoral Registration Officers have been instructed to conduct a detailed review of voter lists within their respective jurisdictions and initiate the process of removing ineligible names in accordance with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.
The directive places special emphasis on the disposal of Form-7 applications, which are used for filing objections and seeking deletion of names from electoral rolls. Officials have been asked to take appropriate action against identified cases during the verification drive.
The CEO’s office stated that the exercise is aimed at making electoral rolls more transparent, accurate and error-free ahead of future elections in the state. Election authorities believe that updated voter lists are essential to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process and preventing duplication or inclusion of ineligible voters.
All district administrative authorities have been instructed to treat the matter on priority and complete the exercise urgently in compliance with the Election Commission’s directives.
