Guwahati, 14 May (HS): Congress national spokesperson Pawan Khera on Thursday appeared before the Assam Police Crime Branch for the second consecutive day in connection with an ongoing investigation linked to allegations regarding multiple foreign passports allegedly associated with Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Khera reportedly faced nearly eight hours of marathon questioning on Thursday. However, when journalists asked whether he still stood by his earlier statements and allegations, the Congress leader chose not to respond to any media queries while entering or leaving the Crime Branch office.
Sources said Khera has once again been directed to appear before the Crime Branch office on 25 May for further interrogations as part of the investigation.
Notably, Khera had earlier undergone nearly 11 hours of interrogation on Wednesday before being allowed to leave late at night.
Speaking to the media after Wednesday’s interrogation, Khera had stated that he has full faith in the judiciary and would cooperate completely with the investigation.
The case stems from allegations made by Khera during a press conference in Guwahati. Following the remarks, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma lodged an FIR with the Crime Branch, terming the allegations false and defamatory. Subsequently, Khera moved courts seeking anticipatory bail. While the Supreme Court directed him to approach the Gauhati High Court, the Supreme Court later granted him anticipatory bail with certain conditions, following which he has been appearing before investigators for questioning.-----------
