
New Delhi, 14 May (H.S.): India's legendary cricketer and President of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), Kapil Dev, met with Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Wednesday. The meeting extensively discussed the potential role of golf in developing the national capital into a world-class global city.
PGTI Chief Executive Officer Amandeep Johl was also present. The Lieutenant Governor highlighted Delhi government's initiatives aimed at enhancing the capital's international identity and global stature, while appealing for Kapil Dev's cooperation in these efforts.
Kapil Dev stated that Delhi already possesses a strong foundation for golf development and he is ready to dedicate his time and support to any initiative that elevates the capital's global image. He emphasized that sports can effectively strengthen a city's international recognition.
During the meeting, Kapil Dev gifted the Lieutenant Governor a special book on Sikh gurdwaras, describing it as particularly dear to him.
The discussion also covered Delhi's key golf venues, prominently featuring the Delhi Golf Club, host of the prestigious India Championship, which attracts top global golfers. Recently, the PGTI Players Championship was successfully held at the Qutub Golf Course. Talks also touched on the proposed new golf development project in Dwarka, being advanced by the Delhi Development Authority.
Amandeep Johl remarked that Delhi plays a crucial role in Indian golf's growth. He noted that leveraging existing facilities and new projects could position the capital as a major hub for professional golf tournaments. The meeting explored synergies between sports, tourism, hospitality, and international events to establish Delhi as a global sports capital.
