Chennai, 14 May (H.S.):The DMK leadership will hold a crucial meeting of its district secretaries in Chennai on Thursday to review the party’s defeat in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and chalk out a roadmap for rebuilding the organisation ahead of future political battles in the state.

The meeting, to be chaired by DMK president and former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, will take place at Kalaignar Arangam inside the Anna Arivalayam party headquarters. Convened by DMK general secretary Duraimurugan, the deliberations are expected to see the participation of district secretaries and senior office-bearers from across Tamil Nadu.

The meeting assumes significance as it is the first major internal exercise by the DMK after the party-led Secular Progressive Alliance lost power in the Assembly elections. The alliance, which had governed the state for five years, suffered a setback amid the rise of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and the resurgence of the AIADMK-led alliance.

Party sources said the leadership is expected to undertake a detailed assessment of the electoral defeat, including constituency-wise performance, alliance coordination, booth-level management and campaign execution. District functionaries are also likely to provide feedback on voter sentiment, organisational gaps and issues that affected the party during the polls.

The DMK leadership is expected to focus on strengthening the party structure and energising its cadre network in preparation for the upcoming local body elections and future Assembly and parliamentary contests.

Sources indicated that Stalin may outline measures aimed at reorganising the party machinery, expanding youth participation and enhancing the party’s digital and social media outreach to reconnect with voters, particularly younger sections of the electorate.

The discussions are also likely to centre on the DMK’s role as the principal opposition party in Tamil Nadu and strategies to politically counter the ruling TVK government both inside and outside the Assembly.

All district secretaries have been instructed to attend the meeting without fail, underlining the importance attached by the leadership to the deliberations that are expected to shape the DMK’s political direction in the post-election phase.
