Kochi, 01 May (H.S.): Fresh details have emerged in the high-profile drug case in Kochi, with police indicating that the network of arrested dealer Kevin B. Mathew extended to prominent individuals, including those from the film industry and the medical profession.

According to investigators, Kevin, a native of Chembumukku in Thrikkakara, operated as a wholesale supplier of synthetic drugs. Police sources revealed that he primarily catered to clients attending DJ parties and exclusive “white-collar” drug gatherings in the city. His operations are believed to have penetrated elite social circles, raising concerns about the scale and reach of the racket.

During interrogation, Kevin allegedly admitted to supplying narcotics to several young doctors working in different hospitals. He also told police that individuals associated with the film industry were among his clients. Authorities are now in the process of compiling a detailed list of customers, and the probe is expected to widen in the coming days.

Officials confirmed that Kevin was earlier arrested with substances including MDMA and ecstasy pills. Police have also indicated that his arrest will be formally recorded in connection with an ongoing drug party case in the city.

Investigators are closely examining Kevin’s financial transactions to trace the flow of money linked to the illegal trade. Preliminary findings suggest that he operated an organised distribution network that used intermediaries to deliver drugs to clients.

In a disturbing revelation, police said Kevin had allegedly recruited young women, including girls, into the racket. He is accused of luring them with promises of opportunities in the film industry and later exploiting them for drug distribution activities.

Authorities further stated that Kevin supplied narcotics to several high-profile individuals, including a lawyer and a dentist who were earlier caught with drugs at a five-star hotel in Kochi.

With the investigation gaining momentum, police are expected to summon more individuals connected to the network. The case has once again highlighted the growing menace of synthetic drug abuse within affluent and professional circles in Kerala.
