Shyam Lal Sachdeva, the 94-year-old father of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi President Virendra Sachdeva, passed away on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at AIIMS Hospital. His cremation was performed this morning at Nigam Bodh Ghat with full state and civic honours.
The last rites were conducted by his five sons. The ceremony was attended by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Tegbir Singh Sindhu, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta, Delhi government ministers Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Ravindra Indraj, Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, along with several senior leaders, MPs, MLAs, councillors, and thousands of party workers.
Among those paying tribute were MPs Manoj Tiwari, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, and Bansuri Swaraj; senior BJP leaders Vijay Goel, Ramesh Bidhuri, and Vinay Sahasrabuddhe; as well as representatives from RSS, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, and other social organisations, alongside Delhi Police and administration officials.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta remarked that Shyam Lal Sachdeva raised his family with simplicity and hard work amid challenging circumstances, instilling values of social service. She noted that these very principles have enabled his son Virendra Sachdeva to serve today as the state president of India's largest political party.
