Nagpur, 08 Apr (HS):
An Automated Testing Station (ATS) for Inspection and Certification of commercial
and non-commercial vehicles will be started in Nagpur Regional Transport Office
(RTO). The ATS will be inaugurated on May 15 aimed at accuracy and transparency
in the certification procedure.
The ATS is being
set-up under the Road Safety and Vehicle Fitness Modernisation Mission of the
Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles
Department.. It will have three separate lanes equipped with advanced sensors
and machinery and minimise manual intervention and ensuring standardisation of pre-testing
before certification..
The Station is being installed
by Rosemerta Technologies in collaboration with the Maharashtra Government and
the Automotive Research Association of India. The first such station was
started in Nashik as a pilot project.
According to Regional
Transport Officer Kiran Bidkar, the transport vehicles must undergo periodic
fitness testing based on the age of the vehicle – once in two years for first
eight years and once every year later.
