India welcomed the Iran-US ceasefire in West Asia, expressing optimism for lasting regional peace and its potential to advance negotiations in Ukraine. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) emphasized de-escalation, dialogue, and diplomacy as essential to end the conflict swiftly.

MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, at an inter-ministerial briefing, reiterated India's longstanding peace advocacy.

Official Statement

The MEA statement hailed the truce, noting the conflict's heavy toll on lives and global energy/trade networks. It stressed uninterrupted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz for commerce.

India anticipates face-to-face Iran talks following US-Israel agreement via mediators. The hostilities began February 28 with joint US-Israel strikes on Iran.
