New Delhi, 08 April (H.S.):

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) strongly objected to dissolving the MCD Standing Committee before its term ended, demanding extension until June 12.

MCD Joint In-Charge Praveen Kumar, alongside Preeti Dogra, addressed a press conference at party headquarters. Kumar stated the committee's term was set to end June 12, but a proposal limited it to March 31.

Kumar cited a prior government resolution allowing continuity until a new committee forms or one year elapses—preventing premature dissolution. Despite this, the term ended March 31, halting meetings until new office-bearers are elected.

Section 68 of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act mandates the committee continues until successors are constituted per provisions. Kumar accused the committee of refusal, paralyzing functions and empowering commissioners to weaken it.

Kumar urged immediate meetings until new formation; the prior committee (formed June 12, 2025) should operate legally. Dogra demanded continuity to June 12, retaining members to ensure development works continue without public disruption.
