Domestic stock markets closed higher for the fourth straight session, rebounding sharply from early lows amid robust buying. After opening weak, both Sensex and Nifty staged impressive recoveries, with Sensex gaining 0.69% and Nifty 0.68% by close.
Both indices achieved strong intraday rebounds for the third consecutive day: Sensex climbed 1,403.91 points from lows, while Nifty rose 434.55 points—following Thursday's 2,022.73-point Sensex surge and Monday's 1,478.80-point jump.
IT, metals, and realty stocks led gains, with banking, auto, capital goods, FMCG, healthcare, oil & gas, PSE, and tech indices also closing positively. Consumer durables dipped 0.18%, per BSE data; midcaps rose 0.20%, smallcaps fell marginally 0.06%.
Market strength boosted investor wealth by nearly ₹1.72 lakh crore, lifting BSE-listed firms' market cap to ₹429.23 lakh crore from Monday's ₹427.51 lakh crore.
Trading volume: BSE saw 4,381 active stocks (2,668 up, 1,560 down, 153 flat); NSE 2,985 (1,924 up, 1,061 down). Sensex's 30 stocks: 19 gainers, 11 decliners; Nifty 50: 37 up, 13 down.
Intraday Movement
Sensex opened 372.49 points lower at 73,734.36, plunging 824.44 points to 73,282.41 amid negative sentiment before buyers propelled it to a 1,403.91-point recovery, closing up 509.73 points at 74,616.58. Nifty mirrored this, opening down 129.55 at 22,838.70, hitting 22,719.30 low, recovering 434.55 points to peak at 23,153.85, settling up 155.40 at 23,123.65 after late selling.
Top Nifty gainers: Wipro (+3.77%), Hindalco (+2.92%), HCL Tech (+2.73%), TCS (+2.66%), Infosys (+2.54%).
Top losers: Dr Reddy's (-1.78%), Adani Enterprises (-1.06%), IndiGo (-1.01%), Apollo Hospitals (-0.63%), M&M (-0.50%).
