Shamli, 7 April (HS): Uttar Pradesh's
Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) conducted raids at various locations in Shamli
district and detained four suspects, including a woman, who were accused of
involvement in anti-national activities.
According to reports, the ATS team from
Saharanpur raided various locations in the Shamli district on Tuesday morning.
Four suspects were picked up in the Kairana area. After questioning, the team
took all four with them. Local residents say that Rashid and his wife, along
with four others, were taken away by young men in a car. Rashid has previously
been jailed for counterfeit currency. Local police officials have refused to
comment on the case. Following the ATS raid, various discussions are rife in
the area. The ATS took this action after receiving information about suspicious
activities.
The ATS considers the region, which includes
Saharanpur and Shamli, to be sensitive given to its proximity to borders and
past intelligence on suspect movement. To combat extremist activities, the UP
ATS has increased its attention on terror networks in western Uttar Pradesh.
