New Delhi, 06 April (H.S.):

The Railway Ministry greenlit projects worth ₹1,364.45 crore on Monday to bolster train safety, modernize signaling systems, and strengthen communication networks across key zones.

A flagship initiative installs Kavach Version 4.0—the indigenous anti-collision system—on 232 Southern Railway locomotives at ₹208.81 crore, positioned as a game-changer preventing train collisions through automatic braking.

Northern Railway secures ₹400.86 crore for upgrading optical fiber communication (OFC) over 3,200+ route km, enhancing signaling reliability and Kavach efficacy. North Central Railway gets ₹176.76 crore for 2×48 fiber OFC across 2,196 route km on high-density routes, fortifying communication resilience.

South Central Railway allocates ₹578.02 crore to convert panel interlocking to electronic systems at 49 stations, minimizing manual errors for safer, more efficient operations.

Broader Modernization Vision

These initiatives form part of Railways' comprehensive upgrade strategy targeting elevated safety, capacity, and operational efficiency. Enhanced Kavach rollout and signaling promise significantly safer passenger journeys ahead.
