
Bhubaneswar, 05 April (H.S.): The India Meteorological Department has issued orange and yellow alerts for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds across Odisha till April 10. Wind speeds may reach up to 60 kmph, particularly during afternoon and evening hours.
According to the IMD, light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are likely at isolated places across the state over the next few days.
An orange alert has been issued for Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Bhadrak on April 6, with wind speeds of 50–60 kmph expected. Several other districts, including Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack and Sundargarh, are under yellow alert with winds of 40–50 kmph, while southern and central districts may witness milder thunderstorms.
For April 7, a yellow alert covers multiple northern and coastal districts. The situation is expected to intensify again on April 8 and 9, with orange alerts for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore and Bhadrak, and yellow warnings for adjoining regions. On April 10, yellow alerts remain in place for key districts.
The IMD has advised residents to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid sheltering under trees, and remain cautious amid lightning and strong winds.
