Amritsar, April 05 (H.S.): The Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted an international drug smuggling module and arrested two accused, recovering 4.13 kilograms of heroin from their possession. The operation is being seen as a major breakthrough in the ongoing anti-drug campaign in Punjab.
According to preliminary investigations, the arrested individuals were in direct contact with Europe-based handlers as well as criminals operating from inside jails. The network was actively involved in trafficking and supplying drugs across the Majha and Doaba regions of Punjab. Police have not disclosed the identities of the accused at this stage due to the ongoing investigation.
Officials revealed that both accused have a criminal background and were previously involved in multiple cases under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act. Several FIRs had already been registered against them in the past.
In the current case, a fresh FIR has been registered at Sultanwind Police Station in Amritsar. Police teams are now working to uncover the larger network and identify other individuals involved in the smuggling racket. Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav stated that the state police is taking strict and continuous action against drug trafficking. He reiterated that the Punjab Police is committed to making the state drug free and ensuring public safety.
He further added that advanced technology and intelligence inputs are being actively used to track and dismantle such international networks. The police have also urged citizens to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station to aid in the fight against drugs.
