Thiruvananthapuram, 29 April (H.S.):Exit polls for the Kerala Assembly elections have indicated a possible return to power for the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), suggesting a favourable trend for the alliance after a decade in the opposition.

The projections were released after the completion of polling phases in other states, including West Bengal, and come just days ahead of the official counting of votes scheduled for May 4. With only a short wait remaining for the final verdict, political activity in the state has intensified, with all three major fronts expressing confidence in their prospects.

According to various exit poll agencies, the UDF appears to have gained momentum across several regions, potentially benefiting from anti-incumbency sentiments against the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF). The Congress-led alliance is hopeful that a united campaign and voter dissatisfaction with the incumbent government will translate into electoral gains.

The LDF, led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, remains optimistic about retaining power, banking on its governance record and welfare initiatives. The front believes its development agenda and social schemes will resonate with voters and help it secure a third consecutive term—an unprecedented feat in Kerala’s political history.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is aiming to expand its footprint in the state. The BJP is hopeful of opening its account in more constituencies, particularly in seats that witnessed intense triangular contests, and increasing its overall vote share.

In the 2021 Assembly elections, most exit polls had accurately predicted a victory for the LDF, which went on to win a decisive mandate. This time, however, the contest is perceived to be tighter, with high voter turnout recorded across the state during polling held on April 9.

While exit polls offer an early indication of trends, the final outcome will only be confirmed when votes are counted. Political observers caution that Kerala has often delivered unexpected results, keeping the suspense alive until counting day.
