Mumbai, 29 Apr

(HS): Former Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council and Uddhav

Balasaheb Thackeray Sena leader Ambadas Danve has been selected for contesting

the Legislative Council seat. The announcement of Danve’s name was made by

Aditya Thackeray on Wednesday. With the announcement of Danve’s name as

Maha-Vikas Aghadi candidate, speculations about Uddhav Thackeray contesting the

elections came to end.

The other member

of MVA, Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) have not yet

responded to announcement of Danve’s name. Danve will file nomination papers on

Thursday April 30, which is the last day for filing nominations.

BJP has already

announced names of five candidates from its quota. Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde)

and NCP (Ajit Pawar) groups have not finalised their candidates. Shinde is in

contact with Bachhu Kadu of Prahar Sanghatna with an offer to him to merge

Prahar into Shiv Sena for his seat.

The elections

for nine seats is scheduled for May 12.
