New Delhi, 28 April (H.S.): NITI Aayog has unveiled a strategic roadmap, “DPI@2047,” to guide the next phase of India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) journey, aiming to transform digital foundations into a core driver of inclusive, productivity‑led and non‑linear economic growth. The framework is explicitly aligned with the government’s long‑term goal of a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) by 2047, signaling a shift from basic digital inclusion toward broad‑based prosperity and global competitiveness.

The roadmap lays out a two‑stage approach: DPI 2.0 (2025–2035), focused on livelihood‑driven growth, and DPI 3.0 (2035–2047), targeted at enabling broad‑based prosperity across the economy. Under DPI 2.0, the strategy identifies eight high‑impact sectoral transformations in micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), agriculture, education, health, credit, energy and social‑protection systems.

Key priorities include expanding market access for MSMEs, building an inclusive credit infrastructure for over a billion Indians, strengthening decentralised energy systems, and rolling out universal platforms for healthcare and education. The roadmap also emphasises scaling technology entrepreneurship, enhancing data‑driven governance, and leveraging artificial intelligence to improve efficiency and decision‑making at scale.

During the launch event, Vice‑Chairperson Suman Bery underscored that development must now move beyond GDP‑centric metrics to productivity‑enhancing reforms, with digital infrastructure acting as a backbone. Dr. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser, stressed that technology can deliver meaningful impact only when deployed at scale, underpinned by trust, security and strong institutional capacity.

NITI Aayog CEO Nidhi Chibber highlighted that the roadmap will help states accelerate their own digital‑transformation journeys, thereby boosting sub‑national growth and convergence. Experts say the convergence of DPI and AI has the potential to create a uniquely Indian model that simultaneously expands employment, improves living standards and strengthens overall economic resilience.

Developed in collaboration with the EkStep Foundation and Deloitte, the DPI@2047 roadmap calls for district‑level implementation, pilot‑driven roll‑outs in MSMEs and agriculture, and robust safeguards around data privacy and interoperability. Officials describe the document as a pivotal step in evolving India’s digital journey from mere inclusion to widespread capability, productivity and opportunity, setting the stage for a non‑linear, technology‑powered growth trajectory toward Viksit Bharat 2047.
