Kolkata, 22 April (H.S.): Amid the West Bengal Assembly elections, senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur launched a sharp attack on the Trinamool Congress government, alleging that the state was being run through a syndicate of crime, corruption, and cut-money.

Addressing a roadshow and public meeting in Nadia, as well as an election rally in the Kolkata Port Assembly constituency on Wednesday, Thakur accused the ruling party of misgovernance and lawlessness.

He said West Bengal needed a new direction and claimed that if the BJP formed the government on May 4, those responsible for alleged atrocities and hooliganism over the past 15 years would be held accountable.

Thakur said that under Trinamool Congress rule, the state had suffered from corruption, unemployment, and migration. According to him, the election was not only about changing the government but also about protecting Bengal’s identity.

The BJP leader alleged that Trinamool-backed elements dominated villages, lanes, and neighbourhoods across the state, operating what he described as a syndicate system.

He said the BJP had the capability to dismantle such networks and would take legal action against those involved.

Thakur also accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of protecting illegal infiltrators. He said many young people from the state were being forced to migrate elsewhere due to a lack of employment opportunities and rising joblessness.

He further alleged irregularities in welfare schemes and misuse of public funds. He also claimed that the state government was not extending adequate cooperation for border fencing work.

Raising the issue of women’s safety, Thakur said incidents such as Sandeshkhali and the RG Kar Hospital case had raised serious questions about law and order in the state.

He alleged that women in West Bengal were feeling insecure.

The BJP leader further claimed that the state government appeared to stand by corrupt officials and private companies, indicating a wider nexus of corruption.

Expressing confidence in the electoral outcome, Thakur said the people of the state would free themselves from the Trinamool Congress on May 4 and vote to realise the vision of “Sonar Bangla.”
