New Delhi, 02 April (H.S.):

Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi highlighted promotion issues in Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), arguing that reserving top posts exclusively for IPS officers demoralizes frontline personnel.

In a video post on X, Gandhi cited Assistant Commandant Ajay Malik, who lost a leg to an IED blast in a Naxal encounter yet received no promotion after over 15 years of service. He framed this as emblematic of pain felt by lakhs of jawans securing borders, combating terrorism and Naxalism, and ensuring peaceful elections.

Key Criticisms

Rahul Gandhi accused the government of defying Supreme Court objections to institutionalize this system, calling it not just a career blocker but an assault on morale of those at the forefront of national security. He argued forces like BSF, CRPF, ITBP, and CISF possess unique expertise, and external leadership fails to grasp their ethos—fundamentally wrong, per Congress.

When our soldiers' morale breaks, the foundation of national security shakes, he stated.
