Kolkata, 18 April (H.S.) : Ahead of the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will intensify the Bharatiya Janata Party’s campaign by addressing four public rallies in the Jangalmahal region on Sunday, with a special focus on tribal voters.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to campaign in several key areas of the Rarh Bengal belt, including Bishnupur, Purulia, Jhargram and Medinipur. Holding four rallies in the state in a single day is being seen as an unusual and significant move in his election schedule.

According to the programme, the Prime Minister will arrive at Andal Airport on Saturday night and stay overnight in Durgapur. On Sunday morning, he will travel to Bankura, where he will address his first rally at Barjora at around 11 a.m.

He will then proceed to Purulia, where the second rally is scheduled at around 12:45 p.m. in the Balarampur Assembly constituency. The third rally will be held in Jhargram at around 2:45 p.m. near the municipal area. The fourth and final rally of the day will take place in Medinipur.

In addition, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit Belur Math in Howrah on April 23. From there, he will hold a roadshow up to Shalkia. A public meeting in Krishnanagar is also proposed on the same day.

With only five days left for the first phase of polling, election campaigning has gathered momentum across the state. Along with the Prime Minister, several senior BJP leaders have been campaigning extensively in West Bengal.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has projected Prime Minister Modi as its principal campaign face across all 294 Assembly constituencies and continues to highlight its slogan of building a “Sonar Bangla”.

Political observers believe the visit is a strategic attempt to consolidate support among tribal communities in the Jangalmahal region.
