Women Journalists Honoured at IFUNA International Women’s Day Programme in New Delhi

Indraninsarkar IFUNA Delhi, March 8 (H.S.): The Indian Federation of United Nations Associations (IFUNA) organised a special programme in New Delhi to mark International Women’s Day 2026, recognising the contribution of women journalists, media educators and professionals to public discourse and democratic engagement.
Former Supreme Court Judge and former Chief Justice of the Madras High Court Justice Indira Banerjee, who attended as the chief guest, emphasised the importance of women’s leadership and their growing role in strengthening inclusive institutions and society. She noted that the professional journeys of women journalists reflect dedication, resilience and the strengthening of democratic values through responsible media.
IFUNA President Justice S.N. Srivastava and Secretary General Suresh Srivastava highlighted the organisation’s commitment to promoting gender equality and encouraging women’s participation in public life.
During the programme, ten women journalists from across India were honoured for their contribution to journalism and public discourse. Among those recognised was senior journalist Indrani Sarkar, known for her work in political reporting, investigative journalism and coverage of social issues including women’s rights, governance and humanitarian concerns.
Several distinguished personalities from the judiciary, academia, media, corporate sector and civil society were present on the occasion and appreciated the initiative.
A special feature of the programme was a poetic tribute written and recited by Dr. Munish, highlighting the contribution of women in contemporary society.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by IFUNA Media Advisor Deepak Parvatiyar, who appreciated the role of women journalists and their contribution to strengthening democratic discourse.
Eminent media professionals including Sriram Joshi of the Pudhari Group and other senior journalists were also present.
The organisers said the programme aimed to acknowledge the dedication of women professionals who have contributed significantly to media, research and public engagement while promoting dialogue on social justice and gender equality.
The event also featured discussions on strengthening women’s voices in public life and encouraging greater participation of women in journalism, academia and policy discourse.
IFUNA, which holds Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and is affiliated with the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA), regularly organises programmes to promote the ideals of the United Nations including peace, dialogue, sustainable development and social justice.
