Bhubaneswar, 07 March (H.S.): More than ₹5,000 crore will be disbursed to beneficiaries of the Subhadra Yojana on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha Pravati Parida said on Saturday.

Parida, who also holds the Women and Child Development portfolio, said 1,02,12,665 women beneficiaries will receive financial assistance under the scheme. She added that a total of 1,12,57,667 women had applied to avail the benefits of the programme.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will launch the disbursal of the second instalment of the scheme during a programme at Talabania in Puri. The financial assistance will be credited directly to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

The Deputy Chief Minister further said that 2,13,198 new beneficiaries will receive financial assistance under the scheme for the first time. In addition, 36,385 applicants who had submitted grievances through the scheme’s portal will also receive the benefits.

This will mark the second instalment of financial assistance under the scheme. According to the guidelines, the first instalment of ₹5,000 is released on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan (Rakhi Purnima), while the second instalment of ₹5,000 is disbursed every year on March 8, International Women’s Day.

Under the scheme, each eligible woman is entitled to receive ₹10,000 annually as financial assistance from the state government.
