Kolkata, 06 March (H.S.) : Leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday called for political change in West Bengal through the party’s ongoing “Parivartan Yatra”, while targeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over governance, corruption and security issues in the state.

According to BJP leaders, the outreach campaign aims to mobilise public support against what they described as “syndicate raj, corruption and the culture of cut money” in the state, while highlighting development and security concerns.

At a public meeting in the Kumargram Assembly constituency of Alipurduar organisational district, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar, along with MPs Manoj Tigga and Jayanta Roy, addressed party workers and supporters.

Majumdar said the BJP was committed to bringing “real change” in the lives of people in Bengal. He said the party would prioritise infrastructure development by expanding bridges, rail connectivity and road networks to strengthen transport links across the state.

He also pointed out that several tea gardens in North Bengal and the Dooars region had remained closed for years, affecting the livelihood of thousands of workers. According to him, a BJP government would take concrete steps to reopen such tea estates and revive the regional economy. He further said the party was committed to protecting Bengal’s cultural identity and ensuring the state’s security and social stability.

Majumdar also addressed a gathering during the Parivartan Yatra programme in the Natabari Assembly constituency of Cooch Behar organisational district, where he reiterated the party’s commitment to good governance, transparency and development-oriented policies.

In Medinipur region, Union Minister Giriraj Singh and Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari addressed a large gathering of supporters during the campaign.

Adhikari sharply criticised the state government, alleging that key sectors such as employment generation for youth, industrial growth, infrastructure development, women’s safety and airport expansion had been neglected under the present administration.

He alleged that the government was focusing on political gains rather than development and claimed that Banerjee was staging protests to protect illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators instead of addressing the problems of ordinary citizens. Adhikari said the upcoming Assembly elections would be crucial for Bengal’s future and security, expressing confidence that people would vote for change.

Giriraj Singh, in his address, said that if the BJP formed the government in the state, strict action would be taken against corruption and those involved in illegal activities would be brought under the ambit of law.

He alleged that “cut money” was being collected even from housing schemes meant for the poor and that benefits of government programmes were not reaching genuine beneficiaries. Singh also said that self-help groups would be strengthened under a BJP government and special welfare schemes would be introduced to economically empower women. He announced that women would receive a monthly financial assistance of ₹3,000 under welfare programmes if the party came to power in the state.

Meanwhile, a large public meeting was also organised in Bali in the Howrah–Hooghly region, where BJP’s state president and Rajya Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya addressed supporters.

Bhattacharya criticised the state government over the law-and-order situation, alleging that incidents of political violence and attacks on opposition workers had increased in recent years.

He said political intimidation would not stop the BJP’s movement for change and added that if the party formed the government in West Bengal, the Seventh Pay Commission would be implemented within 45 days to meet the long-pending demand of state government employees.

Bhattacharya also accused the ruling All India Trinamool Congress of damaging the state’s industrial potential due to corruption, political interference and the absence of investor-friendly policies. He asserted that a BJP government would create a transparent and secure environment for industrial development.

The BJP has urged people across the state to participate in the Parivartan Yatra and join the campaign against corruption and syndicate practices, stating that the movement would continue across districts in the coming days with a focus on development, employment opportunities, security and restoration of democratic values.
