Guwahati, 05 March (HS): Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi has once again appealed to the Indian National Congress for an electoral alliance in Sivasagar, stating that cooperation between the opposition parties is necessary to secure victory in the constituency.
Gogoi reportedly said that his party is keen on forming an alliance “by any means,” stressing that unity among anti-BJP forces is essential in the upcoming elections. Sources indicate that the party will wait until Saturday for a response from the Congress leadership regarding the proposed tie-up.
However, the issue has triggered internal dissent within Raijor Dal. The party’s working president Kobindra Chetia Phukan launched a sharp attack on Akhil Gogoi, alleging that the party has been turned into an “open market” under his leadership. Phukan also criticised the manner in which ticket aspirants were allegedly invited to Kaziranga Orchid Park after seeking nominations through social media.
Phukan further expressed resentment over the reported nomination of Jnanashree Bora from the Ahom-dominated Sivasagar constituency, claiming that the decision had insulted the sentiments of the Ahom community.
Political observers say the developments have placed Akhil Gogoi in a difficult position, as uncertainty over the alliance with Congress and growing internal criticism within Raijor Dal continue to create complications ahead of the elections.--------
