
North 24 Paragnas, 30 March (H.S.): A man was killed and five others were injured in a violent clash over road construction in Baduria area of North 24 Parganas district, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Saminur Islam Mondal (46). One of the injured is stated to be in a critical condition.
According to police, the incident took place in Raipur village under Baduria police station, where a concrete road was to be constructed under a government scheme. The dispute reportedly began over the construction of the road leading to the victim’s house.
Tension escalated when some neighbours allegedly objected to the work, leading to a clash between two groups. During the altercation, Saminur was allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon and sustained fatal injuries.
He was rushed to Baduria Rudrapur Rural Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The injured persons are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
A large police force was deployed in the area following the incident, and patrolling has been intensified as tension prevails.
Family members of the deceased alleged that neighbours, identified as Abbasuddin and his son Salauddin, attacked Saminur during the dispute.
Police have initiated an investigation into the incident, though no arrests have been made so far.
