Dhemaji (Assam), 28 March (HS): Tension prevailed in Assam’s Jonai constituency after miscreants allegedly vandalised a Congress election office ahead of its scheduled inauguration, amid intensifying poll activities in the region.

The incident was reported from the 80 No. Jonai Assembly constituency, where unidentified individuals reportedly ransacked the Chimen-Chichi Tongani Block Congress election office under the cover of night. The office, located at Kulajan Tiniali in Silapathar, was set to be formally inaugurated later in the day.

According to reports, the miscreants caused extensive damage to the premises, destroying materials including fencing, tarpaulin sheets, banners and other essential items set up for the campaign office.

Following the incident, the Congress party lodged a formal complaint with the election authorities and strongly condemned the act. The party alleged that such actions reflect attempts to intimidate and disrupt the democratic process, asserting that public support cannot be secured through fear and coercion.-------------
