(HS): Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that offence will be

registered against those spreading rumours about lockdown proposal by the

government or acute shortage of petrol and diesel.

Panic buying of

petrol and diesel started a couple of days ago following the rumours. Fadnavis

said adequate stock of petrol and diesel and LPG is available. Illegal storage

of the fuel by people could lead to accidents.

Despite

announcements by the state and central government about the supply, rumours are

being spread about shortage. People are standing in long queues for hours to

get petrol and diesel compelling the pump owners to restrict dispensing. Panic

buying has also resulted in several pumps going dry before scheduled supply through

tankers.
