
Kaushambi,
27 March (HS): Eight passengers were killed when a pickup truck carrying
pilgrims rammed into a trailer from behind on the Kanpur-Prayagraj highway in
Kaushambi district, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday afternoon. Twenty others were
injured and hospitalized. Police and district administration officials arrived
at the scene and transported the injured to the hospital. Police are currently
working to identify the deceased.
In this
regard, Kaushambi Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar, speaking at the
Sirathu Community Center, stated that a family and several others were
returning from a child's head-tonsure (mundan) ceremony in Prayagraj. Their
pickup vehicle collided with a trailer traveling on the road near a petrol pump
in Dorma village. Upon receiving information, police arrived at the scene and
transported the injured to the hospital. Eight people died in the accident,
including five women and three children. Twenty injured are undergoing
treatment at the hospital. He stated that 28 people were reportedly travelling
in the pickup , believed to be residents of Barokhar village in the Malwan area
of Fatehpur district. He stated that the police are investigating and the
deceased are being identified.
