The Delhi High Court on Friday ordered protection for Malayalam film actor Mohanlal's personality rights. Justice Jyoti Singh's bench issued these directions.
The court instructed social media platforms to provide detailed information within two weeks on individuals who uploaded content related to Mohanlal's persona without permission. During the hearing the court asked the e-commerce platforms named as respondents how they allowed uploading of items featuring Mohanlal's photos and name without his consent.
The e-commerce platform responded that it has removed such items uploaded without consent.
Mohanlal is one of several prominent figures who have approached the Delhi High Court to safeguard their personality rights.
Previously the high court had ordered no unauthorised use of personality aspects for Indian cricket team head coach and former MP Gautam Gambhir Patanjali Ayurved's Acharya Balakrishna Baba Ramdev actress Sonakshi Sinha actress Kajol actor Vivek Oberoi actor and Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar actor Salman Khan actor Ajay Devgn actress and MP Jaya Bachchan journalist Sudhir Chaudhary Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Telugu actor Nagarjuna actress Aishwarya Rai actor Abhishek Bachchan and film producer Karan Johar.
