Kolkata, 25 March (H.S.) : A 46-year-old woman was allegedly murdered inside her beauty parlour in the Garia area of South Kolkata on Tuesday afternoon, after which the accused reportedly died by suicide. Police suspect the incident may be linked to a strained personal relationship between the two.

The deceased has been identified as Rupbani Das, who had been running a beauty parlour in the Tentultala area of Garia for nearly 15 years. According to police sources, the accused, identified as Pankaj, was known to her and was allegedly in a close relationship with her.

According to preliminary investigation, Rupbani reached her parlour at around 12:05 pm on Tuesday. She was reportedly dropped off by her husband, Anup Kumar Das. Police sources said that Anup had been closely monitoring his wife’s movements in recent days following reports of her association with the accused.

Investigators believe Pankaj had been looking for an opportunity to meet Rupbani alone. Shortly after her husband left, he allegedly entered the parlour and locked the door from inside. An argument reportedly broke out between the two, which soon escalated into a violent confrontation.

During the altercation, Pankaj allegedly attacked Rupbani with a sharp weapon, inflicting a fatal injury to her throat. After she collapsed, he reportedly used the same weapon to slit his own throat. Both were later declared dead.

Police from the Narendrapur police station have begun a detailed investigation into the incident. Officers have collected the suspected murder weapon, blood-stained clothes and forensic samples from the spot. The parlour has been sealed as part of the investigation.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. Police are also examining whether there were any other circumstances behind the incident apart from the reported relationship dispute. Further investigation is in progress.
