Kolkata, 25 March (H.S.): The Election Commission of India is probing the cause of a technical glitch that briefly showed the status of voters in West Bengal as “under adjudication” on its website, an official said on Wednesday.
The issue came to light on Tuesday night when voters tried to access their details on the Commission’s website using their Elector’s Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers. Many found their status marked as “under adjudication” despite their names already being included in the final electoral rolls.
“It appears that the problem was caused by a server or backend technical error. The issue has now been resolved and the reasons behind it are being examined,” a senior official said.
The glitch surfaced within 24 hours of the release of the first supplementary electoral roll by the Commission late Monday night.
According to officials, the system at one point incorrectly displayed all voters in the state as being “under adjudication”, although in reality this was only a display-related technical error and did not affect the actual electoral records.
The ruling All India Trinamool Congress reacted sharply to the incident, alleging that the error created confusion and uncertainty among the electorate.
In posts on social media, the party claimed that even voters whose cases had already been resolved or whose names were included in the final list were shown under the disputed category.
“We regret the inconvenience caused to voters. Our technical teams acted swiftly and rectified the issue within about two hours,” the official added.
