Christchurch, 25 March (H.S.):
New Zealand clinched the five-match T20I series 4-1 on Wednesday with a commanding 92-run victory over South Africa in the decisive fifth game at Hagley Oval, fueled by Amelia Kerr's matchwinning all-round brilliance. Kerr smashed a blistering 105 off 55 balls and snared two wickets to earn both Player of the Match and Player of the Series honors.
Having lost the toss and been put in to bat first, New Zealand stumbled early with Isabella Gaze falling cheaply, but Kerr teamed up with Georgia Plimmer for a crucial 45-run stand for the second wicket. Tumi Sekhukhune struck twice in successive deliveries to rattle the hosts, yet Kerr unleashed a barrage of boundaries against Sune Luus and Sekhukhune to keep the momentum alive.
Kerr then forged a vital 73-run partnership with Brooke Halliday, accelerating in the death overs to propel New Zealand to 194 for six. Ayabonga Khaka and Tumi Sekhukhune claimed three wickets apiece for South Africa.
South Africa's chase imploded from the outset as Lea Tahuhu and Sophie Devine ripped through the top order in the powerplay, leaving the visitors reeling at 40 for four. Annerie Dercksen fought gamely for 23 before Kerr dismissed her, and no one else could build an innings as South Africa crawled to 102 for nine.
