Kamrup (Assam), 25 March (HS): In a major crackdown on drug trafficking in Assam, a joint operation by the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police and Kamrup Police led to the seizure of a large consignment of heroin at Amingaon.
According to official sources, acting on specific intelligence inputs, the joint team intercepted a Maruti Ertiga (AS-01BQ-5651) during a targeted operation conducted late last night. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of narcotics cleverly concealed inside the door panels, indicating a well-planned attempt to evade detection.
Police recovered 25 soap cases containing heroin, weighing approximately 350 grams (excluding packaging). The seized contraband is estimated to have a market value of around ₹3 crore.
Two individuals from Manipur’s Churachandpur district have been arrested in connection with the case. They have been identified as Lamminthang Haokip (29) and Gingkholal Haokip (31).
The operation was led by STF Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Kumar Pathak, who supervised the interception and seizure process.
Officials confirmed that legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused. Further investigation is underway to trace the origin of the consignment and its intended destination.----------
