Chennai,25 March (H.S.):In a key development ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the AIADMK has formalised its alliance with the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) by allocating 11 constituencies to the party led by T.T.V. Dhinakaran. The move is being viewed as a strategic consolidation effort within the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

The seat-sharing arrangement comes at a crucial juncture, as the NDA intensifies preparations to take on the ruling DMK-led alliance. By bringing AMMK into a defined electoral framework, the AIADMK is aiming to strengthen its organisational base and expand its influence across multiple regions of the State.

According to party sources, the allocation follows detailed discussions between senior leaders of both parties, with a focus on identifying constituencies where AMMK can mount a competitive challenge. The agreement is also seen as an attempt to streamline alliance dynamics and avoid overlaps in stronghold areas.

The constituencies allotted to AMMK are Periyakulam (SC), Mannarkudi, Thiruvaiyaru, Karaikudi, Tiruppattur, Nanguneri, Ottapidaram (SC), Tiruchirappalli (West), Saidapet, Poonamallee (SC), and Madathukulam. The selection reflects a balanced mix of urban and rural segments, suggesting a calibrated approach to maximise electoral gains.

Political analysts believe the arrangement could help the NDA consolidate sections of voters aligned with the legacy of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, while also minimising the risk of vote division among like-minded groups. Dhinakaran’s influence in parts of southern Tamil Nadu is expected to complement the AIADMK’s traditional support base.

The AIADMK-led alliance has already initiated similar seat-sharing agreements with other partners, including the BJP and PMK, as it works towards finalising a cohesive electoral blueprint.

With the electoral battle drawing closer, AMMK is likely to announce its candidates shortly, with an emphasis on local credibility and organisational strength. The alliance leadership is expected to roll out a coordinated campaign in the coming days, projecting unity and readiness in a tightly contested political landscape.
