
Kolkata, 25 March (H.S.): Police recovered around ₹10 lakh in cash from a car during a late-night naka checking operation in the Budbud police station area under the Asansol–Durgapur Police Commissionerate. Several persons travelling in the vehicle have been detained for questioning.
According to police sources, the vehicle was stopped on Tuesday night on suspicion as part of intensified checking in view of the ongoing Model Code of Conduct for the Assembly elections. During the search, a large amount of cash was found inside the car, following which officials immediately began counting the money at the spot.
Police said approximately ₹10 lakh has been seized so far. The occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody and are being interrogated to determine the source of the cash and its intended destination.
Officials also confirmed that personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) were present during the operation along with Budbud police station officers.
It is noteworthy that security agencies have stepped up surveillance and vehicle checks across the region following the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct ahead of the Assembly elections.
Police said an investigation is underway to ascertain whether the seized money is linked to any election-related activities or other illegal transactions. Authorities have also stated that such checking drives will continue in the coming days.
