Baksa (Assam), 24 March (HS): A shocking incident was reported from the district jail in Baksa, where a police personnel on duty allegedly attempted suicide inside the prison premises last night.

According to sources, the jawan tried to take his own life using his service rifle while on duty inside the jail, triggering panic among officials and staff present at the location.

The injured personnel has been identified as Gunjit Baishya. He was immediately rushed for medical attention and later shifted to AIIMS, Guwahati, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

Preliminary information suggests that the jawan hails from Baghmara in Bajali district. Authorities are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the incident and further investigation is underway.-----------
