Sambhal, 24 March (HS): The
hearing in the Shahi Jama Masjid-Harihar temple conflict case in Sambhal was
deferred on Tuesday until April 22 due to a Supreme Court stay order, according
to attorneys. The case came up for consideration before Civil Judge (Senior
Division) Aditya Singh in Chandausi. Qasim Jamal, counsel representing the
mosque, informed reporters that the next hearing has been set on April 22
because the subject is now under a stay order from the Supreme Court. The
lawsuit cannot proceed while the Supreme Court's stay order is still in effect.
Dates will be extended till then, he added. Jamal said that the case filed in
the Allahabad High Court had already been denied, thus an appeal was made in
the Supreme Court, where the stay order was granted.
Shrigopal
Sharma, counsel representing the Hindu side, also stated that the next date of
hearing will be April 22 due to the Supreme Court's stay order. The controversy
began on November 19, 2024, when barrister Harishankar Jain, Vishnu Shankar
Jain, and others from the Hindu side filed a suit in Sambhal district court,
stating that the Shahi Jama Masjid was on the site of the Harihar temple. Following
a court order, a survey of the mosque was undertaken on November 19, 2024,
followed by a second inspection on November 24, and the case is now being heard
in civil court.
