
Mumbai, 19 Mar (HS): Three students of IIT, Powai,
Mumbai, died in a car accident near Kalamboli in Raigad district on Mumbai-Pune
Highway. The fourth student was seriously injured in the accident that occurred
on Thursday morning. He has been rushed to MGM Hospital. Highway Police are
investigating the cause of the accident.
According to the investigating police officer, six
IIT students had gone to Lonawala for a picnic, and were returning in two
different cars, when one of the car in which four students were travelling, met
with the accident. The car was being driven at a high speed, over turned near
Kalamboli. The deceased have been identified as Omkumar Borse (23), Lay (20)
and Shreyansh Sharma (22). The dead bodies have been sent to Khalapur
Government Hospital for post-mortem. The condition of the injured student is critical.
Additional Superintendent of Highway Police said,
prima facie it appears that the accident occurred due to high speed. Further
investigation was in progress.
