Bengaluru, 18 March (H.S.): Ahead of a high‑stakes IPL season, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has formally announced that batting superstar Virat Kohli, veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, all‑rounder Krunal Pandya and opener Devdutt Padikkal have joined the team for IPL 2026.

The 2026 edition of the tournament is set to begin on 28 March, and RCB will open its campaign at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium against Sunrisers Hyderabad, continuing its bid to build on the title‑winning momentum from the previous season.

On Wednesday, RCB took to X to share short videos and posts confirming the arrival of these key players. About Virat Kohli, the franchise posted:“You don’t need to see it to believe it… just check the calendar and the signs.”

The captioning emphasised the city’s renewed anticipation surrounding its most iconic player, whose mere presence reshapes the batting order and galvanises the 12th‑man crowd.

For Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the club dubbed him the “Swing King”, writing that he brings calm to the attack but leaves behind a dominant impact. The post added that “Bhuvī’s back home” and that the experienced bowler is ready once again to shoulder the responsibility of delivering early‑hit breakthroughs and controlling middle‑over spells.

Devdutt Padikkal, who played a crucial role at No. 3 last season, was welcomed with a nostalgic‑yet‑forward‑looking message: “Played his debut in 2020… and he’s ours in 2026 too.” The franchise described Padikkal as Bengaluru’s own “star boy,” now fully primed for another key stint in the top‑three.

The message for Krunal Pandya carried a playful vibe: “The aura… starts with ‘K’ and ends with ‘L.’ He’s back.” The post joked that the weather in Bengaluru felt a bit cooler with his return, dubbing him the team’s “Clutch God” and urging the infamous “12th Man Army” to shower him with love.

Krunal’s combination of middle‑order power‑hitting, late‑overs leg‑spin and fielding intensity has made him a preferred finisher in tight matches, and his physical return to the dressing‑room is expected to add a fresh tactical layer to RCB’s death‑overs and death‑scenarios planning.

The scale of Kohli’s recent contribution underlines why his return is so pivotal: in the 2025 season, he scored 657 runs in 15 innings at an average of 54.75 and a strike rate of 144.71, studded with eight half‑centuries. Across his IPL career, he has smashed 8,661 runs in 267 matches, with 8 centuries and 63 half‑centuries, giving him a towering presence at the top of the order.

For Bhuvneshwar, the previous campaign saw him emerge as RCB’s third‑highest wicket‑taker, claiming 17 scalps in 14 matches at 28.41, once again underlining his skill in the early‑powerplay overs and late‑death swings. With 198 wickets in 190 IPL outings, he remains one of the competition’s most consistent fast‑bowling architects.

Krunal also produced a two‑dimensional performance last season: apart from taking 17 wickets in 15 games, he added 109 runs with the bat, making him a genuine third‑phase enforcer who can stabilise the innings or detonate in the closing overs. His return to a successful champion‑project like RCB is widely seen as an attempt to plug experience gaps in the middle order and bowling‑all‑round contingent.

With these big‑name rejoins now formally confirmed, RCB’s camp is signalling a blend of emotional connection, proven match‑winning credentials and calculated balance, as the franchise prepares to open IPL 2026 at the Chinnaswamy and attempt to defend its hard‑earned crown.
