Gorakhpur,
18 March (HS): Police have detained two individuals in Gorakhpur for their
suspected involvement in the murder of BJP politician and property trader
Rajkumar Chauhan, authorities said on Wednesday. Chauhan was stabbed many times
while walking near his residence in the Chilua Tal police station area on
Tuesday morning. He eventually died from his injuries at a hospital. Raj
Chauhan, also known as Nirahua, and Vipin Yadav, both dumper drivers, were
detained by police on Tuesday night, according to SSP Kaustubh.
According
to authorities, the duo confessed to the crime during interrogation, stating
that the murder was an act of vengeance. The accused said that Chauhan's nephew
assaulted one of them two months ago, and the BJP leader's support for his
family added to their hatred.
After
holding a grudge for over four months, they assaulted Chauhan on Tuesday
morning while he was out on a morning stroll. One of the suspects fired a shot
before both assaulted him with knives, causing many injuries. The SSP stated
that Chauhan died at a hospital while receiving treatment. While police have
yet to find the firearm, the officer stated that CCTV camera video assisted
them in identifying the suspects. The FIR mentioned eight individuals whose role
and support are being investigated. He stated that security has been provided
to the victim's relatives. The incident sparked demonstrations, with residents
obstructing the Gorakhpur-Sonauli route until police restored order.
