South 24 Paragnas, 16 March (H.S.): Former Bhangar MLA Arabul Islam on Monday said he had decided to resign from the All India Trinamool Congress, alleging that the party leadership had failed to understand him.

However, there has been no official confirmation yet regarding his resignation from the party.

Speaking to reporters, Islam said he felt hurt by the way he had been treated within the organisation. “The party did not understand Arabul Islam. I have faced five cases and been suspended three times. Because of this pain, I have decided to resign from the Trinamool Congress,” he said.

Political sources said Islam’s distance from the party had increased in recent years following multiple instances of suspension and disciplinary action. Once considered an influential leader in Bhangar’s politics, his prominence within the party had gradually declined.

Sources also indicated that the Trinamool Congress might project its leader Shaukat Molla from the Bhangar seat in a bid to counter the Indian Secular Front, though the party has not made any official announcement on the matter.

Islam has also reportedly been embroiled in several controversies in recent times and had differences with Molla, which further weakened his position within the party. After the panchayat elections, he had publicly expressed displeasure against Molla, following which he was increasingly sidelined in the organisation.

Political circles are now speculating that Islam may soon join the Indian Secular Front.

According to sources, he may visit Furfura Sharif on Monday and could formally join the party on Tuesday if discussions progress positively. Islam, however, has not made any clear statement on the issue so far.

Reacting to the development, Bhangar MLA and ISF leader Naushad Siddiqui alleged that the Trinamool Congress had used Islam and later sidelined him. He claimed that Islam had expressed interest in joining the ISF, though the two leaders had not spoken directly about the matter.
