Kolkata, 14 March (H.S.): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on Saturday launched sharp attacks on the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government at the party’s Parivartan Sankalp Rally at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground, asserting that political change in West Bengal was imminent.

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address, several prominent state and national BJP leaders accused the state government of misgovernance, corruption and failure to fulfil promises made to the people.

Mithun Chakraborty targets state schemes

Actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty criticised the state government’s Yuva Sathi scheme, claiming that the BJP would resolve the problems of the people if voted to power. He also assured that farmers, particularly potato cultivators, would receive priority support under a BJP government.

Taking a swipe at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, he alleged that the state government had failed to deliver on its commitments to the public.

Dilip Ghosh calls for change in government

Former state BJP president Dilip Ghosh urged people to remove the current state government, stating that the BJP would bring development and create new employment opportunities in West Bengal.

He also highlighted infrastructure and railway projects undertaken under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and alleged that industrial investment was being affected due to the policies of the present state administration.

Sukanta Majumdar highlights central schemes

State BJP president Sukanta Majumdar criticised the Trinamool Congress government and highlighted the benefits of the Centre’s PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme for farmers. Referring to the problems faced by potato farmers, he said that a BJP government would ensure better price support mechanisms for agricultural producers.

BJP leader Locket Chatterjee said the party had received strong public support during its Parivartan Yatra and expressed confidence about political change in the state.

Senior leaders Rahul Sinha and Tathagata Roy also accused the Trinamool Congress government of corruption and appeasement politics during their speeches.

Former Union minister Nisith Pramanik raised concerns over the development of North Bengal and alleged that the region had been neglected by the state government. He claimed that promises made to the people of the region remained unfulfilled.

Several senior BJP leaders including Suvendu Adhikari, Sukanta Majumdar, Samik Bhattacharya, Rahul Sinha, Dilip Ghosh, Mithun Chakraborty, Abhijit Gangopadhyay and Tathagata Roy were present at the rally.

A large number of party workers and supporters gathered at the Brigade Parade Ground ahead of the Prime Minister’s arrival. Elaborate security arrangements were put in place, with special logistical arrangements also made for Kolkata Police personnel deployed at the venue.

The BJP’s rally is being seen as a major show of strength by the party ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal.
