Mumbai, 13 Mar (HS): Registration for e-taxis and

e-bike taxis with regional RTOs will be mandatory henceforth. The decision has

been taken by the State Government, Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik said.

Issuing permits have been withheld temporarily following complaints of illegal

use of e-bikes and e-auto-rickshaws. The new policy to regulate transport is

being framed.

So far formal permit to operate e-taxis was not mandatory.

In view of growing number of e-vehicles in the state causing traffic jams and

exploitation of travellers the Central Government has issued notification to

form uniform rules for regulating taxi transport to ensure transparency and

security.

The State Government has also planned to open ‘Single

Window’ system for registration at RTOs facilitate completion of the process, Sarnaik

said.
