March (HS): On the occasion of World Kidney Day, a message of kidney health

awareness was given at Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital, affiliated with Motilal

Nehru Medical College. On this occasion, Dr. Soumya Gupta, Assistant Professor

of Nephrology Department, said that high blood pressure and diabetes are the

biggest enemies of the kidneys. If these diseases are not controlled in time,

kidney function gradually decreases and in many cases the patient may even need

dialysis.

Dr. Gupta

explained that the kidneys are a vital organ, purifying the blood, removing

toxins, and maintaining fluid and mineral balance in the body. She added that

Swarup Rani Nehru Hospital treats a large number of kidney-related patients,

and modern treatment facilities, including dialysis, are being provided to

those in need.

interesting facts about the kidneys

The total

weight of both kidneys of a normal person is approximately 250–300 grams.

The

kidneys filter approximately 180 liters of blood every day.

In India,

an estimated 1 in 10 people is affected by some level of chronic kidney disease

(CKD).

About 60

percent of kidney diseases are caused by diabetes and high blood pressure.

The

symptoms of kidney disease are not obvious in the initial stages; hence regular

checkup is very important.

Get your

blood pressure and sugar checked regularly

Reduce

salt and junk food intake

Drink

adequate amount of water

Do not

overuse painkillers without medical advice.

Exercise

regularly and lead a balanced lifestyle
