New Delhi, 04 February (H.S.): The Delhi High Court rebuffed Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav's entreaty for extension on surrendering in a cheque bounce conviction, with Justice Swarnkanta Sharma's bench mandating compliance by February 4, 2026, citing unfulfilled court assurances.
The directive stems from Karkardooma Court's guilty verdict across seven Negotiable Instruments Act cases filed by Murlidhar Projects Private Limited, imposing ₹1.60 crore fine on Yadav and ₹10 lakh per case on wife Radha; HC had suspended sentence in June 2024 deeming him non-habitual offender, but revoked relief upon repayment defaults.
Trouble originated April 2010 when Yadav sought film Ata Pata Lapata completion aid, securing ₹5 crore loan via May 30 agreement repayable with interest at ₹8 crore; thrice renewed, culminating August 9, 2012 pact for ₹11.10 crore restitution—allegedly unmet despite bounced cheques.
Yadav countered claiming investment not loan in complainant firm, but trial court rejected defense, fining accordingly; HC lamented breached undertakings precluding further adjournments in personal liberty matter.
