Guwahati, 04 February (HS): The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Wednesday launched a sharp offensive against Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, unveiling a campaign titled “Who Is Himanta Biswa Sarma” at a special press conference held at Rajiv Bhawan. The party released a video, a QR code–enabled template, a dedicated website, and a helpline number to collect public complaints and information related to the Chief Minister.

The press conference began with the release of the campaign video in the presence of APCC president Gaurav Gogoi, former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and election observer Bhupesh Baghel, and AICC general secretary and Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh. The Congress alleged that the video exposes the “seven faces” of the Chief Minister, accusing him of corruption, land grabbing, family-run businesses, false promises, and betrayal of public trust.

Addressing the media, Gaurav Gogoi alleged that the Chief Minister and his family had violated rules to purchase large tracts of land across different parts of the state, the actual extent of which, he claimed, remains unclear. He said the Congress is working with a special team to investigate these allegations. To speed up the process, the party launched the website whoishbs.com, where citizens can upload information related to the alleged properties of the Chief Minister. A helpline number, 9133400200, has also been issued to receive information related to alleged benami properties.

Gogoi further claimed that preliminary information suggests that the Chief Minister and his family have acquired nearly 12,000 bighas of land. He said details, including alleged methods of converting agricultural land into industrial land, would be made public in the coming days. Calling it a “time for change,” Gogoi said only transformation could safeguard land, society, and Assam’s political value system.

Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel launched a scathing attack on the Assam Chief Minister, describing him as a “master conman.” He alleged that under the protection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, there was an attempt to “sell Assam.” Baghel also targeted central government policies and international agreements, alleging adverse impacts on farmers and accusing both the Centre and the state government of serious wrongdoing.

AICC general secretary Jitendra Singh alleged that the Chief Minister and his family were running Assam like a business. He claimed that several companies were floated in the names of family members and that large tracts of land were handed over to big corporate groups. Singh further said that cases related to the Louis Berger, Saradha, PM Sampada and other alleged scams already exist against the Chief Minister.

Leader of Opposition in the Assam Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, said that despite the Chief Minister’s publicity campaigns, the people of Assam were aware of the truth and more facts would emerge in the coming days. He alleged that the Chief Minister had lost his moral authority and was responsible for the current situation in the state.

Several senior Congress leaders, including MPs Pradyut Bordoloi and Rakibul Hussain, along with party leaders and workers, were present at the press conference. The event was conducted by APCC Media and Communication Department chairman Bedabrata Bora.----------
