Kathmandu, 03 February (H.S.): Nepal's Election Commission announced on Monday, February 2, 2026, the removal of 76 candidates from political parties' closed proportional representation lists for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, 2026.

Verification-Driven Disqualifications

The Commission stated that post-verification scrutiny prompted the cull, with 21 candidates blacklisted by Credit Information Bureau Nepal (CIB Nepal). Additionally, 25 appeared simultaneously on provincial assembly proportional lists, violating eligibility rules.

Further Grounds for Removal

Ten candidates faced disqualification for unpaid fines imposed by the Commission; four failed to meet the minimum 25-year age threshold; and one lacked voter list registration. Two others, not from backward regions, were erroneously slotted there, while one male candidate occupied a women-reserved quota.

Party Requests and Dual Violations

At political parties' behest, 10 more names were excised. The Commission noted two candidates deemed ineligible on multiple grounds, underscoring rigorous compliance enforcement ahead of the 275-member House polls comprising 165 direct and 110 proportional seats.
