
Kalpetta, 26 Feb (H.S.): Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi are scheduled to reach Kerala today to take part in a series of public engagements, including the foundation stone-laying ceremony for houses being constructed by the Congress in Wayanad.
The key event of the visit will be held in Kalpetta, where Rahul Gandhi will lay the foundation stone for homes built under a Congress-led housing initiative for beneficiaries in the district. Priyanka Gandhi will also attend the ceremony, marking a significant political moment for the party in Wayanad.
Rahul Gandhi is expected to arrive in Kannur in the morning. He will first participate in a farmers’ meeting in Peravoor, where he is likely to interact with farmers and discuss agrarian issues, before travelling to Kalpetta for the housing programme.
Priyanka Gandhi, the Member of Parliament from Wayanad, will begin her engagements with a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting at the Collectorate. At 1.30 p.m., she will hand over modern equipment to the Forest Department’s Rapid Response Team (RRT) at her MP office in Kalpetta, aimed at enhancing preparedness to tackle wildlife-related incidents in the region.
Her schedule continues into the following day. In the morning, she will inaugurate a laboratory at the Kalikavu Service Cooperative Bank. Later in the afternoon, she will attend the silver jubilee celebrations of MES School at Kaithapoyil in Thiruvambady and lay the foundation stone for a new block on the school campus.
Priyanka Gandhi will also visit the proposed site of the Chippilithodu ghat bypass road and inspect the location of the Bairakuppa bridge project. In addition, she is slated to participate in the golden jubilee celebrations of a Knanaya Catholic church, visit the residence of a Pulppally native who was killed in a recent tiger attack, and attend a key distribution ceremony for houses constructed by the Muslim League for victims of the Chooralmala–Mundakkai disaster.
The high-profile visit is expected to attract considerable public and political attention across Wayanad and adjoining districts.
