
Cachar (Assam), 24 February (HS): Acting on precise intelligence inputs, police in Silchar intercepted a truck transporting a huge consignment of illegal Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and seized 2,025 litres of contraband liquor. A total of 222 cartons were recovered during the operation, and three persons were arrested in connection with the case.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday on social media handle lauded the swift action of the police, reiterating the state government’s firm stance against bootlegging and illegal liquor trade. He remarked that while bootleggers may be on the move, the law remains firmly on the groove.
According to officials, the operation was carried out by the Assam Police in coordination with Cachar Police. The truck was intercepted at a strategic location in Silchar following specific intelligence inputs about the illegal consignment.
Police have launched further investigation to trace the source and intended destination of the seized liquor and to identify other individuals involved in the racket.----------
