Chennai, 21 February (H.S.) : In a significant security operation, a special team from the Delhi Police arrested six Bangladeshi nationals in Tirupur for allegedly circulating messages on social media platforms in support of Pakistan-based terrorist organizations. The group had been residing in the industrial hub of Tirupur under the guise of garment factory workers.
Acting on specific intelligence regarding suspicious digital footprints, the counter-terrorism unit tracked the IP addresses to various locations within the city. The suspects were apprehended during coordinated raids conducted at their rented accommodations in the early hours of the morning.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested individuals had entered India illegally and were utilizing encrypted messaging apps to propagate extremist ideologies and express solidarity with banned terror outfits. Security agencies recovered several mobile phones, SIM cards obtained with forged documents, and laptops containing incriminating electronic evidence.
According to senior police officials involved in the operation, the suspects were also in contact with handlers across the border, though the full extent of their network is still under investigation. Local authorities in Tirupur assisted the Delhi Police team in executing the warrants and ensuring the suspects were safely taken into custody.
A senior official from the Delhi Police stated that the crackdown is part of a broader effort to dismantle sleeper cells and radicalized modules operating within the country. The arrested nationals have been booked under various sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and the Foreigners Act.
Following the arrests, they were produced before a local magistrate for transit remand to be taken to New Delhi for further interrogation. The Tirupur police have since intensified the verification process for migrant workers in the region to prevent the infiltration of individuals with suspicious backgrounds.
Authorities have urged factory owners to strictly adhere to identity verification protocols when employing foreign nationals.
